Dzukou Valley, Nagaland

Sculpted to perfection

When you think of nature's visual spectacles, the Dzukou Valley comes to mind. Nestled between Nagaland and Manipur, this valley showcases nature's artistry. At 8045 feet, its hills and knolls create a stunning landscape.

In July, the valley transforms into a vibrant carpet of wildflowers. While various flowers bloom throughout the year, the "Dzükou Lily" is the most renowned, making the valley truly enchanting.

What’s in a name

Local legend has it that inhabitants of Viswema village sought to settle here but faced crop failures, leading to the name "Dzukou," meaning "soulless and dull" in their dialect. Others suggest it means "cold water," from a stream in the area.

A trekker’s paradise

Prepare for an unforgettable adventure on the Dzukou trek! This journey through lush forests and challenging terrain, while labeled as "easy," surprises trekkers with steep climbs. The trek spans about nine kilometres, taking five to six hours. From Nagaland, choose the Viswema or shorter Jakhama route. On the Manipur side, a new six-hour trek is available from Mount Tempu. A local guide is essential to navigate the beauty of Dzukou Valley!

A price for plastic

To protect the ecosystem, village authorities require a deposit for any plastic items brought in – return them for your deposit back. Dzukou Valley maintains a plastic-free environment.

A trip into the city

While Dzukou Valley is a stunning retreat, Kohima offers rich cultural attractions like the Nagaland State Museum, Naga Heritage Village, and tranquil spots such as the Kohima War Cemetery and the majestic Cathedral Church on a hill.
