However, following Tripura's elevation to statehood within India, the Tripura Government acquired the palace, transforming it into the State Legislative Assembly.

The palace grounds encompass approximately 250 acres and feature luxurious public spaces such as the throne room, durbar hall, library, and reception area. The lush gardens are embellished with pools and fountains, bordered by two expansive artificial ponds, creating a tranquil and picturesque atmosphere. Enfolding the core of Agartala, the vast grounds span 800 acres, presenting a grand and breathtaking vista to admire.

Its ageless allure was such that it not only inspired Nobel Prize winner Rabindranath Tagore to name the palace but also to compose his famous poem, "The Palace."
