Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad, situated on the banks of the Sabarmati River, is globally recognized for Mahatma Gandhi's Ashram. The city features significant historical monuments, including the tombs of Ahmed Shah and his queens, Ahmed Shah's Mosque, Jama Masjid, the Mosque of Sidi Sayid, and Teen Darwaza. Additional essential sites include Rani Rupmati's Mosque, Rani Sipri's Mosque, Raj Rabri Mosque, Hathi Singh Jain Temple, as well as Kankaria Lake, Kutbi Mazar, Bhadra Fort, Dada-hari-di-Vav (a remarkable architectural step well), Victoria Gardens, and the N C Mehta Museum of Miniatures. The city also boasts numerous 'pols' or traditional neighborhoods that trace their origins back to the 18th century.
Vadodara
Vadodara is adorned with an array of palatial structures and beautifully landscaped parks that captivate tourists. The city is well-known for its historical palaces, museums, and parks. Sayaji Bagh, a large and well-maintained park, stands out as a significant tourist destination. Within this expansive park, one can find the Baroda Museum and Art Gallery, which offers a remarkable collection of artifacts, including Indian sculptures and ancient manuscripts, as well as a collection of Egyptian antiquities. The art gallery houses Mughal miniatures alongside works by European masters. Additionally, Sayaji Bagh features a planetarium and a small zoo. Other notable tourist attractions include the Maharaj Fateh Singh Museum, Laxmi Vilas Palace, and the Naulakhi Well.
Sasan Gir Lion Sanctuary
Sasan Gir National Park is a unique destination, as it is the only place in the world outside of Africa where Asiatic lions can be found in their natural habitat. These lions are slightly smaller than their African counterparts, yet they are a magnificent sight to behold. The park is also home to a variety of species, including leopards, chitals, chinkaras (gazelles), wild boars, wild asses, nilgais, spotted deer, and four-horned antelopes. The sanctuary also serves as a refuge for various bird species, including monkeys and India's national bird, the peacock. A crocodile-rearing and research center is also present within the park, and visitors can enjoy safaris with special permits. Gir forest encompasses the Nalsarovar Lake and Sanctuary, home to numerous avian species, as well as a small temple dedicated to Lord Krishna near the Tulsi Shyam springs.
